4. Branching Out or Branching In?

Orakei K

This was taken in  the general area of Orakei Basin.   I love the natural ripples and reflections created as the tide gently swirled around the tree branch.

3. Yeah Groovy Baby

Orakei P50%

This was also taken in the area of the Boat Sheds in the Orakei Basin. I am not sure what was being reflected into the water. I was too busy concentrating on not falling in, as I stood on an almost vertical piece of turf with the camera bag flapping off my shoulder. It was worth it though.

2. Between The Sheds

Orakei B Orakei M Orakei Sblog

The Boat Sheds in Orakei Basin on Ngapipi Road are an Auckland icon. They have been photographed and painted by tourists and artists for many years. There are about 12 in a row, some with gaps in between, and some joined to the next one. This is a reflection in the water between two of the sheds.

1. Waitaramoa Reserve

Waitaramoa Reserve B

First photography outing took me to Waitaramoa Reserve in Shore Road, Auckland, NZ. It’s not the most attractive reserve as it consists mainly of mangrove swamp areas in a tidal inlet with large grass areas not used too much by the public. The mangrove swamp has it’s own characteristics such as mosquitoes, dragon flies and wriggling larvae in the almost still waters. And then there’s the soft squishy slushy smelly mud. The water areas that I photographed were not readily accessible so I had to scratch and scrape my way through the undergrowth to reach the water’s edge. Just 50 metres away the traffic zoomed up and down Shore Road, totally oblivious to my explorations and existence. Good thing I didn’t slip and fall in, no-one would have found me!
